Happy 8th Birthday Ryan!!!

Today my nephew Ryan turned 8 and he got to eat some cake - come on I couldn't resist!

Everyone say "CHEESE"!!!

Great Hat Ryan!

Vincent catching some air

Sophia with the worst hair ever! Seriously I am thinking of shaving her head and letting it start again

A day with the Burkes

The kids had a play date with their cousins and had a ball! As you can see they made full use out of the water slide. They were leaping off with excitement. Here is Kyle flying down the slide:

Then Samantha can't keep her butt down either:

Steve who is 30 lbs wet really can't afford to be that high up without fear of a gust of wind taking him away:

Now Bella sweet Bella! Here is my sweet daredevil....you hold on tight baby girl!!!

Sam finally did attempt to come down on her butt and here was the result:

If we could only tell what Sophia and Michael, Jr. were both thinking! Please feel free to come up with your own thoughts

What a Crew!!

Look we're not crate people. We never crated Yogi or Abbey. Lulu Pickles could have been I suppose but it's too late for that. Anyway, Dexter needs a crate. He needs a crate because the gate was a joke to him. The goliath beast walked right over the damn thing. So he had a crate for the last 2 months and it was fine - Exhibit A:

So now due to his size and the fact that he is gonna be so freaking big we needed to upgrade to this crate. YES!!! It is that big in real life! (please excuse my walls they are patiently waiting for paint - I'm working on it jeesh!)

Look at these sad sacks! Spoiled dogs they are so there is no need for these looks. There goes my mudroom - We're just gonna have to move for more room....lol

25 Days to go!!!!

The big day for my brother in law Frank and sister in law (to be) Lori is 25 days away! Debbie, Virginia and I took Lori out last night to celebrate! We all had a good time...too much obviously seeing how much my head hurts this morning! We ate and we drank and drank some more. Can't wait for the wedding it will be an affair to remember

A special thanks goes out to our chauffeur, Vera, for the evening. She got us safely to our destinations....in a fine automobile!!

Oh and thanks to Lou for picking up the bar tab too bad we didn't know that ahead of time we would have drank top shelf all night!

He caught a FISH this BIG!!!!

It's early morning and the lake is a sheet of glass. The children are happily feeding the fish at the dock. All is peaceful! I am in the midst of packing the truck when I hear the screams! The kids were screaming and I couldn't understand any of them. I start to run down to the lake when I am able to hear Samantha scream for the camera "Mommmmm get the camera Daddy has caught a BIG fish!!!!" Not really buying it because if you know my husband you know his brothers both got the fishing genes in the family and he got none. So to make the kids happy I grab the camera and start running. You can see in this first picture it's blurry....cause I was running:

Then I catch this moment and think there had better be something good:

The man is just bursting with excitement!

You would like to think in this picture he is showing his kids the fish and the right way to take off the hook. When he is actually still freaking out that he caught it and asking me what he should do next

I try to tell him to hold the pole up with the fish hanging from the line for a proper "fish catch moment" but he is too scared the fish will fall back into he water and he wants to make sure I have documented this fully.

"Steve hold the damn fish up already?"

"Like this you want me to hold it like this?"

"Or like this?"

Now they think they should try and save it and this bucket will do

Great idea! It's a perfect fit!

After years of casting and always coming up empty handed. He has made his dream come true of finally catching the "BIG" fish! "This was a monumental moment" he said as he stood and pondered his achievement!

It's been 10 years now!!!

1998 was my first trip to Vermont! I would like to say I remember it clearly but its a bit blurry! What I remember is how excited Steve was to share this with me and I can see why. I remember him taking me to walk by the waterfalls near the house. I remember how pretty the lake was the first morning. I remember driving up and seeing the mountains on fire - Steve says that's mist or fog but whatever those are definitely fires. What I knew for sure was that this place that my husband got to enjoy growing up was going to be something we would get to share together now and I knew then that when we had kids they would never miss a summer and the memories we would make here would be more than I could imagine! I thought of coming up with a Top 10 list of my favorite memories. I have too many so I made 2 lists!

Top 10 Favorite Memories

#10 Stealing Pumpkins

My first trip here in the fall was a great time! Me, Steve and his parents went Apple picking and while we were picking apples we noticed the pumpkin fields off to the side. Well Steve thought it would be fun to go steal some pumpkins. It was but they were heavy to carry while running

#9 Blueberry picking during a lightening storm

So it was me, Steve, Sam and Steven and we went blueberry picking. Actually Steve and I pick them the kids just eat them right off the vine. As we pull into the field Steve says he thinks a storm is coming. I think he's crazy and insist we go further into the vines because that is where the BEST blueberries will be. I am not a blueberry expert - I don't even like them so why Steve would listen to me is for another story. So it's clear now that a storm is coming but I am unfazed. I want to get my blueberries - yah know the ones I won't eat. Some ways down the road lightening strikes and if you ask Steve he will tell you it was 200 yards away. First I could barely tell you how far 2 yards would be so I am not sure how he could be so sure it was 200 yards away and to be frank I don't consider that close. Well apparently Steve did and he grabs the kids and starts running to the car. All I see is his ass and the feet of the children as they are dangling from his hips. Oh and he is screaming for me to run and I am still determined to get the damn berries. As I type this I am laughing so hard from this memory I can barely see through my tears. Good times!

#8 Car trip

We made a trip up with Uncle Joey! The car ride is what is memorable for me. We get pulled over for speeding going through one of the hillbilly towns we are forced to drive through at 30mph. When the officer comes to the window Steve goes to hand him his license and reg. In the back Uncle Joey starts screaming for Steve to tell the cop he has a heart condition and that we were taking him to the hospital. It was hysterical and I busted out laughing and tried to get Uncle Joey to stop screaming but it was no use. He really felt the cop would buy it.

#7 Peanut Butter Pie

This is an ongoing memory that is brought up almost every time Ralph and I get together. We both have different memories of this and since this is my blog your only getting my version. This was pre-kids for all of us. We had our friends all come to the lake for a nice weekend. Tony and Sarah came up for the day. After dinner Sarah brought dessert - it was Peanut Butter Pie! What a fantastic concept to make a pie with peanut butter. I don't care for pie or peanut butter so politely declined the dessert and had ice cream instead. We all enjoyed the rest of the evening in each others company! That's all for that! Oh and there was an alleged moment that I referred to a guest as a butterball but I have no recollection

#6 Mount Death

This was the same weekend as the previous memory. We all decided that a good way to spend the afternoon was to climb one of the local mountains. The real name has since escaped me since for the last 9 years I only know it as Mount Death! It got it's name courtesy of Ralph who almost died several times on the mountain as the rest of us skipped by him. Rebecca's feet never even touched the ground as she moved up the mountain with the ease of a wild cat. Oh I can still hear Ralph asking for one of us to put him out of his misery. I knew peanut butter pie awaited him and who would want to miss that!

#5 Country Fairs

Not one fair memory sticks out more than the other. Why you ask? Well it's simple. All the fairs here are similar. They all have large quantities of people without teeth and any hygiene routine for that matter. You could win a pie or cake for a quarter. Seriously WHY would you want to win a pie from one of these fairs!!! Bingo that we always win at and then the locals get mad at us. One of my kids will cry over the fact that they can't bring the fish they just won home. We can't wait to get to these fairs and go year after year!

#4 Steven's nurse maid elbow

Again another fun filled weekend with our friends! I was sent here with Samantha, Steven and Bella while Steve had to come up a day later due to work. So we go out to have lunch at Tots diner. It's me and the kids, Ralph and Rebecca with Aidan and Kevin, Andrea, Brandon and Jillian. Steven, jr. was exhausted and having a moment when he fell off his chair onto the floor. I picked him up and he was just miserable afterward. He started complaining of his arm hurting and I am blowing him off because I know he is just tired. Hours later after realizing there might actually be something wrong I leave the other 2 kids with our guests and take Steven to the clinic. Steve still isn't here yet! After the Dr's at the clinic realize they can't help us they send us off to the hospital in Rutland. Steve still not here! So we drive off to the hospital to find out the boy did in fact knock his elbow out of the socket. I have to hold him on my lap as the Dr. pulls and twists his little limb back into place. Still no husband and liquor now needed for both me and the boy. Good times!

#3 Going into labor...really!

Pregnant with Samantha and having no clue about anything going on in my body. I was laying down with pain SHARP pain in my stomach. I try to make it go away but just can't get comfortable. We call home to our OB who doesn't like what she was hearing and wants us to get to a hospital to get checked out. I remain calm as Steve gets his Dad to tell him of our situation. At that moment my father in law ushers us to the car and proceeds to drive 100 miles an hour through the craziest rain/hail storm I have ever witnessed. The whole time he is reassuring me that everything will be OK and I am perfectly calm and it was Steve in the backseat concentrating on his breathing...lol We made it in one piece and was given the work up to only get sent home with no explanation as to what my problem was. After we get home later that week we find out Samantha was breech and that her turning was most likely what caused the pain. Fun times!!

#2 His BIG announcement!

It's the morning sometime and Steve asks to go for a walk. I wasn't thinking much of it because we always go for a walk up the road. He starts telling me he has something to talk to me about and I start trying to figure out what he has done. Obviously it has to be bad because he was being to sweet and calm so I figure he did some damage to the truck or something crazy like that. (Like the time we left to come to VT at 4am and when he backed out of the driveway he forget he didn't shut the rear passenger door causing the door to be pryed backward while getting pushed against a bush.) He then goes into this whole speech about what he is about to tell me I can't repeat because he was told in confidence and he isn't supposed to know yet and he is going on and on and the suspense is killing me and just then just before the house with the big fish mailbox he tells me " I made partner" Just like that. It was like he just said I picked up milk from the store. No screaming and yelling or jumping up and down. This is/was HUGE there needed to me some pomp and circumstance with this kind of announcement. I think I slugged him - cause that's what I do and then yelled at him for telling me in such a way. Really looking back I shouldn't have expected much else. All of his big announcements (with the exception of his marriage proposal) to me were never made big. He's told me big things over wings at the PO or walks in VT. Oh course I didn't keep it a secret. I think I lasted maybe an hour before I made him tell his parents. Anytime we ever take that walk I always remember this moment.

#1

This was a hard one! I have so many that should be on this list that picking #1 isn't easy. It can't be just anything it has to be something huge. Something larger than life! So for my current #1 memory and this could change but for now will remain - just one word makes this whole memory

Of course I have a million memories of things we have done with our kids and I feel like I am getting a childhood here now because I get to live it with them. I look forward to each and every year coming here. We are always amazed at how much the kids have mentally grown when they get home after a vacation from the lake. There must be something in the water (well there really is and it's not good so don't drink it)! We always send a thank you to my in-laws for our stay and the good time we had but it is always more to me than just a week on the lake and for that a thank you will never be enough. I hope my next 10 years are even more fun and exciting as the last!

Here are some pictures from the past years - I will be sure to add more once I track them down:

Oh wait the present!! There has to be a present for an anniversary! I don't care what kind of anniversary you should always get a present!!

Aunt Gin Gin I love my froggy!!!

Sophia is obsessed with frogs. All kinds, big or small they just need to be soft and green! Sophia had a nice surprise waiting for her when we arrived in Vermont - thanks Aunt Gin Gin!

A new froggy!!!

OK I swear she said Dex-Ter then punched him for trying to eat her froggy

Awww she loves her frogs!

Finally some well deserved time at the lake!

I can't believe it has been a year since we have been here - thats not good! We need to stop working so hard and start enjoying the moments because they are passing us by.

First things first the annual tradition of the underaged, under height children driving the truck down the road to the cabin.....no now its a house:

WARNING:

WE INTERRUPT THIS POST FOR A SERIOUS PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: DRIVING WITH YOUR 4 ADORING CHILDREN, BELOVED WIFE, 1 50 LB 5 MTH OLD PUPPY - DOPEY AS THEY COME AND 1 BLIND AS A BAT PUG...OH AND DRIVING 70 MILES AN HOUR WHILE CHECKING YOUR BLACKBERRY IS
HAZARDOUS TO ALL!!!!!!

OK back to letting the children drive:

"Mom can I push this stick down?"

So we make it to the lake in one piece!! Now being the good children we are....well really Steve more than me but we already know that - the step by step directions on getting the new toy in the water was ACTUALLY READ:

"Come on Steve do you really need to read the WHOLE thing?!?"

Oh boy here we go!

Now look off into the distance and you will see the wake Steve is leaving - at this point Little Steven runs over to me and screams " Mom Mom do you see Dad??? He is gonna DIE!!!"

Still alive and taking Sam for a spin - you can see her screaming in this. Well moments before she hit the throttle and just about fell off the ski and I was asking her to do it again for a picture. So she is screaming NO at me

OH MY DEXTER - you have GROWN!!

Dexter 2 months old

Dexter 5 months old

I'm ready for my close up!

A wedding is coming a wedding is coming!! Uncle Frankie and Aunt Lori's big day is almost here - you think I can wear these shoes:

Can't wait!!

For Andrea and Carol

We had a lovely dinner out with our close friends Saturday night. I always love our get togethers! Like Andrea said we get to go to restaurants that don't hand out crayons. Anyway, while most of the night the men were getting picked on for their various flaws and lets face it their men so they have many I got picked on for something. Apparently it boggles Andrea and Carol's mind that I don't use my dish washer. I enjoy instant gratification and want the dishes clean and put away right after use. The dishwasher to me is just another spot to hide a mess and we all know how I don't like a mess. So in honor of my 2 friends I loaded the dishwasher this evening. What a mess just loading it but whatever it's loaded and humming along quietly for 90 min. I know what your thinking - 90 min. is along time EXACTLY!! That is why I like to wash them on the spot. Please be sure to call me in a few days to make sure I remember to unload the damn thing!

15 hrs later.....

4 AT&T stores

3 Apple stores

numerous phone calls to check wait times at previous mentioned stores

finally 2 hours on line with 4 kids with no snacks and no help

PRICELESS!

Not 1 but 2 :

isn't it pretty!?!?!?!?

I have waited and waited for this phone ever since the first series was released a year ago. At the time and for one more week I am tied into a 2 year nightmare with Verizon. Ok not really a nightmare because they have been pretty good - Sprint on the other hand is the worst company in the world but that is for another day. So I have eagerly awaited for the release today of the 3g. After hearing from Steve this morning that he wasn't going to be successful in obtaining one in the city I was forced to take matters into my own hands. I get the kids into the car and we head out. It's 9am and I head to the 1st of many AT&T stores we will visit today. When pulling into the parking lot I see some store employee's come out and address the crowd and then watch as some walk off the line. I figure they are sold out and I don't even get out of the car. We head off to the 1st Apple store and get excited when we walk up only to see 6 people in front. I can't believe it there are only 6 people?!?!? Then I turn my head to see the line of dozens and dozens of people that are stuffed into a corridor like sardines. Yes the thought crossed my mind to get on it but then I was snapped back to reality when Bella asked for dinner .....it was only 10am. We pile back into the car and go to 2 more At&t stores and 1 more Apple store. Lines longer than anything I have ever seen before. You would have thought Steve Jobs was handing them out personally. After feeding the kids lunch and experiencing Steve and Barry's (OMG I will love this store!!! - thanks alot Virginia) we head home defeated. We'll really just me because the kids could have cared less but they were good at pointing out various AT&T stores along our travels by spotting the lines of people everywhere. Finally I decide to make one last attempt after I had called the 3rd Apple store to hear that they only had 40 people or so on line and there was hope I would succeed. So at 5:45 we pile back into the truck and 45min later we are standing in line with about 50 people. While on line I had people stopping to applaud the children and how well they were behaving. People couldn't believe I was standing on line with 4 kids. Like Steve said - I love a challenge and was going to do anything to get one today. The kids were good until the final 30 minutes. At that point though most of the adults were losing it also. Thankfully Steve showed up to save the day...really to save the kids...OK really to save Bella! Oh that Bella is just dancing to her own beat!

After waiting for a group of unhappy customers to finish yelling at the manager we get called into the store. I think I cried! The last time I ever waited this long for anything was when Jurassic Park came out and we waited on line over night. At least for that we had plenty to entertain us! OK back to my new toy - I have touched it once since we left the store. I need to sit in peace and quiet to take it all in. I am sure it was worth the wait! Samantha wants one when she grows up. Little does she know it will most likely be obsolete by then but for now I will enjoy it!

Listen for my call soon so I can give you my new #! I had to get a new cell because it was time and I want nothing my the best for my baby :)
